Xenia Beliayeva is a visual artist, music producer, singer and DJ. Born in Moscow, she has lived in Germany since 1988.
Her creative career began in 1997, working with photographer Peter Böttcher in Cologne. That same year, she performed alongside Laurent Garnier as part of the opening programme for Kraftwerk at ZKM Karlsruhe. This was followed by positions at music television channel VIVA and Hamburg label Ladomat 2000, as well as work for Playhouse, Klang Elektronik, Ongaku and Mute Records.
As a DJ and musician, she has performed around the world, from New York, London and Stockholm to São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Moscow and Sydney. She has released more than 30 singles and EPs as well as the albums “Ever Since” and “Riss”, and has collaborated with artists including André Winter, Anthony Rother, Miss Kittin, Dubfire, Oliver Huntemann, Marc DePulse and Jay Lumen. For Dennis Gansel’s film “We Are the Night”, she wrote and produced the track “Dumpfe Träume”.
Image and sound have been connected in her work from the beginning. Her painting moves between abstraction and figuration. Music, club culture, travel, encounters and memories find their way into her work, sometimes immediately visible, sometimes only revealing themselves on a second look.
Her work has been shown at Metavier Galerie Hannover, FYAL Münster, HAAM, Jupiter and Millerntor Gallery in Hamburg, as well as in the International Portrait Group Exhibition at No. 35 Gallery in London. In 2025, NDR Kultur featured Xenia Beliayeva and her work across painting, music and club culture.
Today, Xenia Beliayeva lives and works in Hamburg. Usually somewhere between the atelier, the studio and the next idea.
